Medicare Supplement Plan G in New York: The Most Comprehensive Coverage — at the Lowest Price We Can Find You

One annual deductible. After that, Plan G covers the rest. Here's how to get it at the right price in New York.

What Plan G Actually Covers — and What It Costs in the Hudson Valley

Medicare Supplement Plan G is the most comprehensive Medigap option available to new Medicare enrollees. Once you meet the annual Part B deductible — $257 in 2026 — Plan G covers every remaining Medicare-approved cost. Hospital stays, specialist visits, outpatient procedures, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, foreign travel emergencies: covered. There are no copays, no coinsurance, and no surprise bills to sort through at the end of the year.

For most people turning 65 or newly enrolling in Medicare, Plan G is the clearest path to predictable, comprehensive coverage. It's the plan chosen by the majority of Medigap enrollees in New York, and for good reason — one deductible, nothing else to worry about.

In the Mid-Hudson region (zip codes 124–127), 2026 monthly premiums for Plan G typically range from approximately $130 to $220 per month depending on the carrier and your specific zip code. New York uses community rating, which means carriers cannot charge you more based on your age or health — every enrollee in a given zip code pays the same rate for the same plan. The only variable between carriers is the premium itself.

What Plan G Covers

Plan G covers the following costs after Medicare pays its share:

  • Part A hospital coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted
  • Part A deductible
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
  • Part B coinsurance or copayment (the 20% Medicare does not pay)
  • Part B excess charges
  • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
  • Blood (first three pints)
  • Foreign travel emergency care (up to plan limits)

The only cost not covered by Plan G is the annual Part B deductible, which is $257 in 2026.

What Plan G Does Not Cover

Plan G does not include prescription drug coverage. If you enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan, you will need a separate Part D prescription drug plan to cover your medications. We help clients pair Plan G with the right Part D plan for their specific prescriptions and preferred pharmacies — so you're not left to figure out that side of it alone.

Plan G also does not cover dental, vision, or hearing. Standalone supplemental plans for those benefits are available and worth considering depending on your situation.

Why Plan G Replaced Plan F as the Standard

Before January 1, 2020, Plan F was the most comprehensive Medigap option — it covered the Part B deductible in addition to everything Plan G covers today. Plan F is no longer available to people who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020.

For anyone newly eligible for Medicare, Plan G is the equivalent benchmark. The only difference is that $257 annual deductible. In exchange, Plan G premiums are typically lower than Plan F premiums were — making it the stronger value for most new enrollees.

New York's Guaranteed Issue Law: You Can Apply for Plan G Year-Round

Most states require Medigap applicants to pass medical underwriting outside of their Initial Enrollment Period. New York does not. Under New York's guaranteed issue law, any Medicare beneficiary in the state can apply for Medigap Plan G at any time of year, regardless of health status, pre-existing conditions, or when they originally enrolled in Medicare.

This is one of the most significant consumer protections in the country. If you turned 65 a few years ago and never enrolled in a Medigap plan, or if you're currently on Medicare Advantage and want to switch to a supplement, New York's open enrollment rules mean you can make that change without answering a single health question.

Same Coverage. Different Prices. We Find the Lowest.

Because Plan G benefits are federally standardized, every carrier offering Plan G in your zip code is required to provide identical coverage. The only meaningful difference between a $140-per-month Plan G and a $195-per-month Plan G from a different carrier is the price you pay.

We compare Plan G premiums from every carrier operating in your zip code and identify the lowest available rate for your situation. There's no cost to you for this — our compensation is carrier-regulated and identical regardless of which plan you choose. We have no financial reason to steer you toward a higher-priced option, and we won't.

Why Hudson Valley Residents Work With Us for Plan G

We've been helping Medicare beneficiaries in the Hudson Valley and across the tri-state region since 2006. We know the carriers operating in Dutchess County, Putnam County, and the surrounding communities, and we know which ones have held their rates steady and which ones have a history of larger annual increases.

When you sit down with us — in person, by phone, or at one of our free community seminars — we walk through your specific situation: your zip code, your doctors, your budget, and your priorities. Then we show you every Plan G option available to you and what each one costs. You make the decision. We handle the enrollment.

Our approach is the opposite of what most people have experienced from insurance websites and call centers. No pressure, no scripts, no upselling. Just a clear comparison and a straightforward recommendation from someone who knows this market.

Common Questions About Medicare Plan G in New York

  • Does Plan G cover prescription drugs?

No. Medicare Supplement plans, including Plan G, do not include prescription drug coverage. You will need a separate Medicare Part D plan to cover your medications. We help clients identify and enroll in a Part D plan that works alongside their Plan G coverage, based on their specific prescriptions and preferred pharmacies.
  • What is the Part B deductible for 2026?

The Medicare Part B deductible for 2026 is $257. This is the only out-of-pocket cost you are responsible for under Plan G. Once you meet this annual deductible, Plan G covers all remaining Medicare-approved expenses for the rest of the year.
  • Can I switch Plan G carriers in New York after I enroll?

Yes. Because New York has guaranteed issue protections year-round, you can switch from one Plan G carrier to another at any time without medical underwriting. The most common reason to switch is a lower premium with a different carrier. We can run a current rate comparison for you at any point to see whether switching would save you money — the coverage will be identical.
  • How does Plan G compare to Plan F in New York?

Plan F covered the Part B deductible in addition to everything Plan G covers today. However, Plan F is no longer available to anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. For new enrollees, Plan G is the most comprehensive option available — and because Plan G premiums are typically lower than Plan F premiums were, it generally represents better value for people entering Medicare today.

Not Sure Which Supplement Plan Is Right for You? We'll Compare Every Carrier — Free.

Medicare Supplement plans are federally standardized, which means a Plan G from one carrier covers exactly the same things as a Plan G from any other. The only difference is what you pay each month — and that gap can be significant. As an independent broker, we compare every carrier's rates in your zip code and find the lowest available premium for the coverage you need. No steering, no quotas, no carrier we favor over another.

New York also has rules that work in your favor: community rating means your premium doesn't go up just because you get older, and you can apply for coverage year-round without medical underwriting. We'll explain exactly what that means for your situation.
